Ethiopia Attacks Military Base Inside Eritrea

Ethiopian troops have carried out a cross-border attack against military training camps inside Eritrea.

Government spokesman Shimeles Kemal says Ethiopian troops crossed into Eritrea early Thursday to strike military outposts used by what he calls ‘”hit-and-run” subversive groups operating in the remote region.

“The Ethiopian National Defense Force has entered into Eritrea, 16 kilometers from the border of Ethiopia, and launched a successful attack against military posts that have been used by subversive groups organized, supported, financed and trained by the Eritrean government,” said Shimeles.

Addis Ababa, March 15, 2012 (Addis Ababa) – The Ethiopian Defense Force announced Thursday that it has destroyed  Eritrea’s three mercenary camps.Indoctrination and Public  Relation Center Head with the Defense Ministry, Col. Gebrekidan  Gebremariam told journalists here on Thursday that the Ethiopian defense force successfully annihilated the destructive force of the Eritrean  government based in Ramid, Gelahben and Gembe areas which are close to  the Ethiopian border.

Ethiopia Earns 71.1 Million USD From Leather Export

Norway to deport over 400 refugees back to Ethiopia

Starting from March 15, the Norwegian government is to send back over 400 Ethiopian refugees living in the country without legal documents or resident permit.

 

On January 26, Torgeir Larsen, State Secretary with Norwegian  government and Ambassador Berhane Gebrekristos, State Minister of  Foreign Affairs signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two  countries here in Addis Ababa . The MoU envisages that the agreement  would enable Ethiopian citizens in Norway to return to Ethiopia in a  secure and dignified manner.

Evacuation of Stranded ETHIOPIAN Migrants from Yemen Will End Unless New Funding Found: IOM

:IOM announces that this month will organize a final air evacuation of 277 stranded Ethiopian migrants from Yemen’s border with Saudi Arabia, unless new funding to continue repatriation flights is found.

To date, IOM has assisted more than 6,000 Ethiopian migrants to return home from Haradh, a town close to the border used by the migrants as a stepping stone to reach Saudi Arabia. But some 12,000 stranded migrants, mostly from the Horn of Africa, remain.

Living conditions for the migrants in the town are described by IOM transit centre staff on the ground as “terrible” and worsening due to increasing numbers of new arrivals and depleted resources. Tensions are also rising between the migrants and the local community.

At 20.30 o’clock Wednesday evening marked both the people of Hordaland and Rogaland that the earth shook.

The epicenter was just north of Etne, and magnitude 3.5. Something similar has not Etne area experienced since 1989, says Atakan Kuvvet professor in the Department of Earth Science to bt.no.

- There are regular earthquakes in Sunnhordland. It is one of the most vulnerable areas of the country in southern Norway, but this is the strongest in Etne since 1989. Then we measured 4.2, says Atakan.

The quake was detected by stations from Nordland to Kongsberg, in Molde and Trondheim. It does not mean earthquake has been noticeable in all these places.
